During this session we will be exploring how our high-quality provision for disadvantaged pupils and those with social, emotional and mental health needs at Lancot Challenger Academy is underpinned by our shared understanding of Equity vs Equality. We will discuss how we have created a culture based on the belief that all children can achieve and how our practice reflects the expectation that, with the right framework of support and a breadth of opportunities within the curriculum, children will make progress that is commensurate to their needs and beyond. We'll explore how our shared understanding of the need for equity is a driving force across the school, leading to school improvement on our ever evolving journey.

About Lancot Challenger Academy:

Lancot Challenger Academy is one of seven schools within the Challenger Multi-Academy Trust. We are a two form entry Primary school, situated in Dunstable, Bedfordshire.  Our community is increasingly diverse, with more families joining us with limited English. We are well-respected within our community as a school that effectively caters for those with special educational needs. The school was judged as Good by Ofsted in 2018 and has since been on a trajectory towards excellence, receiving a Leading estimate in our 2019 Challenge Partners quality assurance review, as well as two Area of Excellence awards for Curriculum Design and Equity and Equality. On site, we have a state owned specialist unit for pupils with social, emotional and mental health needs, all of whom have an Education Health Care Plan. In the unit, the understanding that equity matters is at the heart of staff ethos and practice.
